How much does one vegan meal save?
Pick what your vegan meal replaces, and how many meals. The numbers below are an estimate against global averages — for scale, not for measurement.
Where these numbers come from
Water and emissions per kilo of food come from Poore & Nemecek, published in Science in 2018, pooling data from more than 38,000 farms worldwide. This is a global average: farming in Vietnam can differ considerably.
One protein portion in a Vietnamese meal is counted as 150g, and the vegan replacement is counted as tofu. For scale: one shower is about 70 litres, one kilometre on a motorbike is about 70g of CO₂.
One vegan meal does not save the world, and nobody has to eat vegan to be a decent person. This is simply a number showing where your meal sits.
