Body numbers and protein on a plant-based diet
For adults. These numbers are here to help you picture your own meals — not a diagnosis, and no substitute for a doctor.
How these numbers are worked out
Energy uses the Mifflin–St Jeor formula multiplied by an activity factor — the estimate with the smallest error among the formulas in common use. The BMI reference range follows the WHO recommendation for Asian populations.
Protein is set at 1.0–1.2 grams per kilo of body weight, a little above the general figure because plant protein is absorbed slightly less well. To check one specific meal, use Enough protein today?
Every body is different, and a number does not say whether you are healthy. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a medical condition or are on treatment, ask a doctor — this page does not replace that.
